  • 15 US dollars
  • South County Line Road

Service Description

Join doula & writer Emily Likins-Ehlers on a journey to telling your birth story! Your story deserves to be told, and it doesn't need to feel intimidating. This workshop is designed to help you put words to paper with a guided writing process. BRING SOMETHING TO WRITE WITH! A computer, a pen & notebook, whatever works for your creative process. We will be spending time free-writing alongside one another. Writing your story uplifts experiences that have been silenced by a patriarchal literary cannon. Share what you learned about yourself - and humanity! - through your hero's journey into parenthood. Whether your birth was mundane or magical, traumatic or inspiring, just last month or years ago -- putting your perspectives on paper can be a therapeutic process. Plus, it makes for a wonderful keepsake to share with your little one one day! Together we will do some of the messy parts of brainstorming, free-writing, and asking yourself some of the hard questions required to write your story in a way that is personally meaningful. Learn where to begin! We will also discuss a few writing concepts to spice-up your writing, such as: - Figurative language - Non-linear narrative - Narrative voice - Foreshadowing - Rhyme and repetition AND MORE! Emily Likins-Ehlers is a full spectrum doula and childbirth educator in South Chicagoland. As a writer, Emily has been featured in publications such as A New Handbook for a Post-Roe America, Mamalode, Lux Magazine, People's World, and more. Emily has a degree in Literature from the University of Montana.
